TOP Dogs Organization: Bringing Joy and Emotional Well-being to Campus During Exam Stress

Posted on August 16, 2023

On May 22nd, 24th, and 25th, 2023, the TOP Dogs organization once again graced us with their delightful presence, bringing along our beloved furry friends. The sight of these adorable dogs on campus not only warms our hearts but also provides a much-needed respite during the challenging exam period. The opportunity to interact and play with these furry companions served as a delightful treat, allowing both students and staff to unwind, destress, and uplift their spirits amidst the demands of exams.

The events were an overwhelming success, radiating immense joy both in person and across digital platforms. The event reel, which garnered over 6000 views, stands as a testament to the widespread delight these activities brought. When students were asked to reflect on their experiences, an overwhelming number expressed the emotional benefits they derived from these interactions. They wholeheartedly conveyed their gratitude to the library for organizing such a thoughtful and beneficial initiative.

A short survey revealed that 60.8% of the attendees were undergraduate students, 19.6% were support staff members, 15.7% were postgraduate students, and 3.9% were academic staff members. 33.3% of the attendees reported that their stress levels were reduced through interactions with the dogs, 23.5% missed their own dogs, and 19.6% were enthusiastic dog lovers who thoroughly enjoyed the interactions. An impressive 78.4% indicated that interacting with the dogs significantly improved their emotional well-being, and 80.4% noted that the interactions with the dogs had a calming effect on them.

Some of the most heart-warming testimonies we received include:

  • "I truly appreciate the organizers for putting this together for the students. I have had many positive experiences, and I know it has helped many other students too. I feel like the organizers deserve recognition."
  • "Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into these animal-assisted therapy sessions. It truly made a wonderful impact and was unquestionably the highlight of my day! It would be great if we could have another set of sessions during exam time too!"
  • "I deeply admire everything the organization does. The level of fun, kindness, sweetness, and comfort provided by both the dogs and handlers, but mostly the dogs, is genuinely heartwarming. I love dogs, and I haven't had one for 10 years since mine was poisoned. This experience made me want a companion. Thank you so much for dedicating this time to comfort and entertain people of all ages, groups, and ethnicities. You guys are truly inspirational and TOP awesome. Love you, and God bless you with many more successes."
  • "I had such a wonderful time; it was amazing to have a little break and enjoy such a happy and relaxed atmosphere with the doggies. They were awesome! It also encouraged me to get out of the office and take a walk. A lovely initiative, thank you!"
