Introducing Academic Speed Dating at the Health Sciences Faculty

Posted on May 24, 2023

As part of an ongoing effort to promote interdisciplinary research and improve collaboration between basic and clinical scientists, a new faculty initiative was launched to break down silos (divisions that operate independently, instead of together) and bring researchers from different fields together. This initiative is Academic Speed Dating! Academic Speed dating was launched on Valentine’s Day, to promote greater collaboration between basic and clinical researchers, with a focus on shared research interests and research outcomes.

As the Health Sciences library, we were proud to be playing a key role in supporting these collaborations. During these sessions, our role as the library was to foster these collaborations through the provision of tools and resources that enable researchers to work together more effectively and enable effective research. During the session, the library was able to showcase a range of databases, journals and other resources that are relevant to both basic and clinical research. In addition, we were able to showcase all the training and support services that we provide for researchers who need assistance in all different aspects of their research.

As the library, it was an exciting opportunity to be part of this initiative and we look forward to seeing the benefits that will result from improved teamwork and collaboration within the faculty.
