At their annual prize-giving ceremony for 2022, the Department of Afrikaans presented the "Tramakassie" award to Adrienne Warricker, an information specialist, in recognition of her service to the staff, students, and researchers in the department. The event took place on March 16, 2023, in the library auditorium, and Ms. Lindiwe Soyizwapi, the director of Library Services, was in attendance.
Afrikaans lecturer and grammarian Suléne Pilon presented Adrienne with a beautiful potted Madagascan palm tree and a framed certificate, and a photo was taken in front of the department's banner to commemorate the moment.
The "Tramakassie" award is an annual accolade given by the department to honor a support staff member for their unwavering dedication in providing service to the department. The term "Tramakassie" originates from the Cape Malay community and is derived from the Indonesian phrase "terima kasih," which means "thank you."
