The Research Commons Hosts Two Successful Events

Posted on May 17, 2023

Recently, the Research Commons hosted two successful events on the 25th and 29th of March 2023, namely the "Introduction to IBM SPSS" training session, and the “Managing My Priorities” seminar.

The first event:

The "Introduction to IBM SPSS" event was held in the Merensky 2 Library and was deemed successful as those who participated learned the fundamentals of IBM SPSS. Positive feedback from the event was received and many showed an interest in attending a more advanced workshop in the future. Despite this positive news, the Research Commons staff could not ignore the empty seats of the several confirmed attendees who had not shown up for the session. This was, however, the only disappointment of the event. To ensure that more students benefit from workshops in the future, we encourage all future attendees to honour their commitments and not miss out on the great training opportunities offered.

The second event:

A “Managing My Many Priorities” seminar took place in the Merensky 2 Library. It was not subject-specific, but rather provided valuable insights to all postgraduate students who found that they have too many tasks and projects to juggle. The event had a hybrid format that allowed it to reach a larger audience and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

At the Research Commons, we realise that students face many obstacles in pursuing academic success. This is why we strive to provide training opportunities that go beyond subject-specific knowledge, and allow students to reach their full academic potential. We look forward to helping more students and hosting more successful events in the future.
