Upon receiving the results of the 2021 social media survey, it was identified that the majority of the library staff was interested in receiving some form of social media training.
Throughout 2022, the Social Media Assistant for the Department of Library Services, Wanya Visagie, hosted 3 training sessions on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
In the Facebook training session, we covered how to create a profile, how to navigate a profile, and Facebook itself. We also covered how to appropriately engage with content (i.e., liking, commenting, and sharing) as well as walking the staff through how to post their own content.
In the Instagram training session, we explained some of the terminology behind the platform, such as the difference between a post, a story, a highlight, and a reel. We showcased how to create a post, how to engage with content, and where to find the UP Library’s social media profile.
In the LinkedIn training session, we highlighted how vital the platform was to further one’s professional reputation and visibility. We showed staff members how to connect with other professionals and how to expand their network. We walked them through how to create a post, how to engage with content that they enjoyed and how to populate their profile with their relevant work experience and qualifications.
