The Department of Library Services’ year-end function 2022

Posted on January 17, 2023

At long last, the date had arrived: December 2, 2022!  The Access and Lending and Learning Centre teams were excited to host the 2022 year-end function.

After a whole year of planning, meetings, getting quotations and changing lists of seats and groups at the last minute, it was time for the year-end function. Everyone was looking forward to it after two years of virtual functions.

A vibrant Marimba group welcomed everyone at the Tuks Monate Residence Hall. The hall was decorated in black and white, with musical instruments and music notation to indicate the Music theme. A splash of silver and the most colourful flowers contributed to creating a special atmosphere and a space with a festive feel. Menus were printed with music notation.

The photo booth provided staff with fun while waiting for the programme to start.

After the welcoming speech, everyone went outside for a library group photo.  The photo was well coordinated and we could all fit in with our “Something White”  outfits!

It was now time for the team event to start: A Quiz with twenty general knowledge questions was presented to the ten groups. Everyone had fun and could participate in groups with colleagues.

The starters were served next, Kosie Schoeman gave his general annual speech and then Lindiwe Soyizwape, our Director addressed the colleagues. The next highlight was the Library Choir flash mob.  They had been practising for months. Everyone was invited to sing along with the last song.  The audience cheered and enjoyed the music before the buffet was served.

All the relevant people were thanked and dessert and coffee followed after the OR Tambo library in conjunction with the Mamelodi library were pulled from the lot to organise the event next year.

People subsequently started to enjoy themselves and danced, chatted and moved around and continued to take selfies and group photos at the photo booth.

It was a joyous event and concluded a year of hard work where new ways of doing things were incorporated after the two years of the pandemic.

This event just once again indicates that hard work and teamwork can accomplish a lot.  Once again thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of this event.
