Community outreach to Irene Homes

The Department of Library Services’ (DLS) last Community Outreach Project for the year was a visit to Irene Homes, a home for intellectually disabled ladies in Centurion.

The outreach event took place on 08 December 2022. The day was marking their Christmas year-end function and the management for the homes requested the DLS staff members to collaborate with them to make the day memorable. We engaged in different games with residents of different age groups such as water slides, water balloons, and pass the gift, to name but a few. Face painting was also an item on the day's agenda. The day was full of fun and games and that really made the residents' day special.

DLS staff members collected a lot of non-perishable items which were donated to Irene Homes on the day. That was a surprise to Irene Homes management since they didn’t know that we were also bringing such a huge donation, and they were thrilled by it. It completed their Christmas treat.

The staff who went to Irene Homes were: Motshabi Mohale, Linky Ntobo, Christine Nel, Busisiwe Mmalefathlo, Tlou Mathiba, Bongi Lethlape, Zama Khanyile, Pfano Makhera, Mariette Maphetho and not forgetting our hands on driver Mr Jeffrey Mashapa.
