The DLS hosts Early Career and Postgraduate workshops

Posted on November 02, 2022

The Research Capacity Development Unit within the Department of Research and Innovation partnered with the Department of Library Services to host a workshop focusing on all the tools and services that can assist early career or postgraduate researchers through their academic journey.

The workshop was presented twice this year in the form of two half-day workshops. The first workshop was hosted on 18-19 May, and the second on 21-22 September 2022.

The programme covered a literature review, Endnote, MSWord training, and Plagiarism and Copyright overview. The spotlight was also placed on an alarming emerging phenomenon called “Deepfake” in research, which is AI generated convincing media snippets. This was followed by where to publish, accredited journals, predatory journals, data management plans, uploading data to Figshare (the UP Data repository), researcher visibility, and lastly author citation analysis.

Future considerations based on the feedback received include changing the format to a series that will enable hands-on sessions and more time for in-depth discussions and elaboration on various parts of the search process and topics discussed.
