The DLS honours its staff on South African Librarians’ Day

Posted on July 22, 2022

The Department of Library Services celebrated South African Librarians Day by serving delicious muffins during tea time at all UP library branches to appreciate the hard work and commitment of the library staff to serving the UP community. To make the day extra special, the UP Library social media pages reshared a post with messages of appreciation from library users to librarians. Some of these read “thank you to the kind, loving, humble, and enthusiastic librarians who are passionate about helping students in the university”, “the compassion and availability librarians offer to the university and the students are truly admirable” and “they are always willing to walk the extra mile. That’s why I am grateful to them”. A special video was also shared on social media, featuring students celebrating and appreciating librarians.

To put the cherry on top, a brand new InstaNovel dedicated to librarians was released titled “Books as a Librarian Would Like Them" by Harry Lyman Koopman. InstaNovels are mostly short stories published on the UP Library Instagram page, accompanied by colourful, modern illustrations to offer a ‘tech-savvy’ reading alternative suitable for this digital age.
We hope all Librarians had a special day!
