Posted on June 11, 2021

Do you need a library book? Use the search function to check whether we've got the electronic version of the book in our collection: http://www.library.up.ac.za/index.htm

If the hard copy is available, follow the following procedure to place the book on hold.

  • Visit the Library website at www.library.up.ac.za.
  • Scroll to the search bar underneath the image banner.
  • Select “Books”.
  • Type the title of the book you need by title or author in the search bar and press Enter.
  • You can filter results by selecting “Print book” under the Format tab.
  • Click on the title of the book you need.
  • Ensure that the book's status indicates that it is "Available".
  • Scroll and click on the blue “Place hold” button.
  • Provide your portal information.
  • Submit the request.
  • The library will communicate the exact time of the book collection and where you may pick up the book, so remember to check your email for confirmation.
  • If you have a campus access permit, the pick-up location of the book will be the library where the book is located.
  • If you do not have a campus permit, the pick-up location of the book will be the Roper Street (main) entrance at the University of Pretoria.

Please note:

  • Books from the Study Collection (GV) and reference books (N) may not be placed on hold. Please submit a digitisation request for these resources.
  • For assistance with book digitisation follow the following procedure:
