The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

A popular account of missionary travels and researches in South Africa by David Livingstone.

David Livingstone was a world-renowned explorer, as well as a physician and missionary. He was particularly interested in finding the source of the Nile, and as a result, he travelled extensively throughout southern and central Africa. This book, aimed non-specialist readers, is an abridged version of Livingstone’s Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa (1857).

UP Special Collections has copies of the original Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa published in 1857, and our copy of the popular version, published in 1861, is part of our Africana Collection.
