FEATURING - Classic African: authentic recipes from an ancient cuisine by Rosamund Grant.

Posted on December 23, 2019

The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

Classic African: authentic recipes from an ancient cuisine by Rosamund Grant.

Entertaining with food and music is integral to African social life, and family, friends and festivity are closely associated in both rural and urban homes. Rigid recipes are rare; most African cooks inherit vague techniques by word of mouth and then go on to develop their skills by experimenting with different ingredients and cooking methods. They often create new and interesting combinations by following their instincts rather than written instructions. Therefore, it is not too fanciful to talk about cooking that comes from the heart. Eating in Africa is a unique and exciting experience, shaped by local traditions and customs, which makes cooking fun and experimental. For above all, cooking the African way is about having a feel for the food.
