The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

Studying While Black: Race, education, emancipation in South African universities by Sharlene Swartz, Alude Mahali, Relebohile Moletsane et al.

This book is an intimate portrait of the many ways in which students in South Africa experience university, and the centrality of race and geography in their quest for education and ultimately emancipation. ‘Studying While Black’ provides fresh insights into the transformation struggle within universities, and will resonate with all readers seeking to understand pivotal change. This book is the outcome of a longitudinal qualitative study undertook between 2013 and 2017 by a team of researchers from the HSRC. The study tracked eighty students from eighty diverse universities in South Africa and documented their experiences.
