Youth Day invitation part 2: Delron Buckley: From Youth to International Star

The Department of Library Services, invites students to attend the second part of our Youth Day celebrations and to meet Delron Buckley!

More information on Delron Buckley: Delron Buckley is the inspiring young man who against the odds left behind the comfort of his family and the land of his birth, to successfully seek out his dream overseas. Despite the many difficulties he faced in a foreign land he rose to become a respected and recognisable figure in world football. It's an amazing story of him growing up in Durban, South Africa to earning a professional contract for Bochum FC as a 16 year old in the premier German Bundesliga. At only 20 years old he represented South Africa (Bafana Bafana) achieving 76 caps, playing at the 1998, 2002 World Cups and 2000 Olympic Games. He has faced many challenges, being raised by his single mum and shares openly of having to run for his life from gangsters and overcoming the temptation of drugs and alcohol in his teen years. His rescue coming through his football talent which took him to also play for clubs like Borussia Dortmund, FC Basel, Arminia Bielefeld and receiving interest from England's, Everton, Hull and Blackburn Rovers. Delron Buckley is well known for his dazzling runs down the left wing, leaving fans captivated and enthralled.
