During the week of 22 to 26 July, videos (see below) about the life of Mandela will be screened in the library’s auditorium between 12:30 and 14:30. Please note that only 85 visitors can be accommodated at a time.

Monday 22 July: Projek Mandela – In the late 1980s, Nelson Mandela stood alone against the apartheid state. In 48 secret meetings, the political prisoner faced a relentless barrage of questions from South Africa's intelligence officials. Not only did he hold his ground, but he eventually convinced the apartheid regime that he possessed the leadership qualities and the political skill required to bury apartheid and transform the country. This film reveals for the first time the torturous journey that Mandela undertook on behalf of the vast majority of South Africans.

Tuesday 23 July: A simple freedom – A look at the strong mind of Robben Island prisoner number 468/64.

Wednesday 24 July: Nelson Mandela: the symbol of a nation – The fascinating life story of a herdboy from Qunu whose destiny it was to become the president of his country.

Thursday 25 July: Playing the enemy – The true story of Invictus, including interviews with Francois Pienaar, Morne du Plessis, Joel Stransky, Chester Williams and Hennie le Roux.

Friday 26 July: Invictus – This film tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of South Africa's rugby team to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa's rugby team as they make their historic run to the 1995 Rugby World Cup championship match.
