Louis Tregardt was the only Voortrekker leader who kept a diary. This diary provides unique information that sheds light on various aspects of both the material and the spiritual culture of Afrikaners of the Great Trek era, what they thought about disease and medicine, their understanding of time and mutual relationships. Tregardt's diary is an indispensable source of culture in his lifetime.
