Greenovate Awards 2019

Posted on December 04, 2019

The Greenovate Awards resulted from the collaborative efforts between Growthpoint Properties and the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA).  The intention behind the Greenovate Awards is to encourage students to learn about green buildings and sustainability.  The Greenovate Awards are open to Honours students in property studies, construction or quantity surveying.  The two fold process starts with a selection process that takes place internally at each University.  The top two projects of each University will continue to present their project to a panel of industry experts who then select the winner and runners up.

In 2019 the research project of Mr Henno de Villiers and Ms Liné Grobler was selected by the Department of Construction Economics for the awards.  They conducted their research under the supervision of Professor Hoffie Cruywagen. The topic of their research project was "Pushing back Day Zero - Water saving strategies for me and you". The Greenovate Awards gala dinner took place on 28 November in Johannesburg where Henno and Liné were announced as the 2019 winners of the Greenovate Awards.  They won the Greenovate trophy and cash prize of R30 000 as well as tickets to the Green Building Council Convention in 2020.  The Department of Construction Economics is proud of the work and efforts of these two students.  They are true ambassadors for the Department of Construction Economics.
