EBIT Week 2019

Posted on March 29, 2019

The faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology annually hosts EBIT week to provided students, currently in grade 10 to 12, the opportunity to explore and experience the various disciplines.  University of Pretoria hosted the 2019 EBIT week from 24-27 March.

The student group for the School for the Built Environment consisted of students interested in studying architecture, town and regional planning, construction management, quantity surveying and real estate.  Industry professionals from these professions were invited to address students and share their experiences and knowledge with them. The three speakers who addressed the students on behalf of Construction Economics were Mr Hendrik van Zyl from Abland, Mr Walter Weideman from Pentad and Mr Jayson Buyskes from Mike Buyskes Construction.

The students had the opportunity to visit Abland’s construction site where the Menlyn Central project is currently being constructed by WBHO.  The students were extremely positive about the site visit and the knowledge that they gained.  Abland did a tremendous job in hosting this group on site and providing them with goody bags and refreshments.

During EBIT week the students also toured the recently revamped Boukunde building on Hatfield campus and participated in a treasure hunt where they had to identify and find certain architectural aspects of the building.  Following this the group went on a campus heritage tour where some of the unique and historical buildings on campus were showcased to them.

The last day of EBIT week the students visited the centre for urban citizenship in Mamelodi.

EBIT week provided students with knowledge as well as practical experience of the Built Environment Professions.  We look forward to welcoming these potential students to the University in the future.
