During the first year orientation week in January all new first year students were welcomed to the University of Pretoria.  Likewise the Department of Construction Economics welcomed all students enrolled for Quantity Surveying, Construction Management and Real Estate.  As part of orientation week the Department of Construction Economics arranged a site visit to give our students a real life experience of a construction site. 

Our students accompanied by their lecturers visited the Brooklyn IQ development in Hatfield.  This development entails the construction of student accommodation and is located close to UP’s Hatfield Campus.  Uniqon, developer and building contractor, arranged a site tour for the group and explained the details of the development.  Construction sites are all subject to Health and Safety regulations and to ensure our students were “dressed for the occasion” Abland generously sponsored a hard hat and safety vest to each student.  The Department of Construction Economics values the involvement and support from industry to make site visits such as these a learning experience for future construction professionals.
