The CSIR and the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) have long shared a concern about the condition of South Africa’s public sector infrastructure (i.e. road, water and sanitation, electricity, rail infrastructure) In 2006 these two organisations cooperated to produce the first national infrastructure report card for SA about the condition of the infrastructure,. A second report card was produced in 2011, and a third in 2017. Prof Kevin Wall of our Department was the leader of the research team as well as co-author of the report.
