Construction management students from the Department of Construction Economics were invited to attend the first International Workshop on Innovation in Construction Management and Economics (IWICME) held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), in the Southern province of Johor Bahru. Other participating universities included the University of Reading, Heriot Watt University, UTHM and Podomoro University.

The purpose of the tour was to expand on existing international collaboration between UP and a number of international universities while giving our students exposure to the international construction industry and other cultures. Currently construction work in Malaysia is at an all-time high especially with privately funded residential developments underway.

The workshop started off by dividing members of each university into groups to work on their group assignments the following day.  The next evening, all students participated in a cultural evening where each group showcased something from their own country and culture. After the last group presentation, the workshop was officially closed by Prof. Hamdan with the invitation to all for the second IWICME workshop to be held in 2018.  A similar tour to Perth, Australia is planned for 2018.
