ASAQS student awards

Posted on August 03, 2017

The Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS) held their annual conference and gala dinner at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand on 1 - 2 August 2017.  The focus of the gala dinner was to acknowledge outstanding academic achievements and contributions made to the construction industry.  Students from the Department of Construction Economics were among those who received awards.

The ASAQS gold medal is awarded annually to a student (on a national basis) whose academic achievements are of outstanding merit and whose personal qualities promise to positively contribute to the profession.   Students who have completed their honours studies with exceptional results are nominated for this award. Our Department yet again had a student nominee for 2017.  Charnike Coetzee was nominated as one of the three candidates for this award.  The other two candidates represented UCT and UFS.  All three students had remarkable academic and personal achievements, but it was UCT that received the gold medal award for 2017.

This year the ASAQS also introduced the “Upcoming Leaders” award that is solely based on academic achievements of students that are currently in their honours year of studies. Juan-Roux Zwaan from our Department was one of the three student nominees for this award and also the runner up for this year.

The Department prides itself in the academic achievements of our students and are very proud of them.
