Construction Economics Tutors 2011

Posted on July 07, 2011

Hannes Vermeulen, tutor and fourth year quantity surveying student says:

Everything we experience in life requires that we set our own mindset to be conductive to what we want to achieve and what it is we want to leave behind. It is said that our mindset usually develops over time. It requires ongoing and active attention and practice.

This is where we as tutors try and step in. We strive to assist the other learners in completing problems given to them-thereby giving them the necessary practise to reach that positive mindset.

Tutor is not another word for “spoon-feeding” in the contrary it’s rather a process in which we guide learners to see problems and solutions as we do, because we have been through them in the past. By guiding them we don’t feed them but instead teach them to eat by themselves.

The tutor structure in our department consists of:

·         5 tutors : 4 first year honours- and 1 third year student

·         We tutor subject such as quantities, pre-calculus, structures etc.

·         2 tutor halls because of high capacity classes

·         Times differ from Monday to Friday which could be found on the notice boards.

Any person in the construction department is more than welcome to come and visit us on south campus and we will assist you as best we know. “We cannot change the direction of the wind but we can set our sails to reach our destinations.” And this is what we intend to do.
