Final Year Dinner 2011

Posted on December 09, 2011

Everyone enjoyed a welcome drink on the terrace before moving into the ballroom where the main function took place. After the starters were served the master of ceremonies, Byron Fergusson, kicked off the formalities by welcoming everyone to the dinner, where after Charl Marais, the class representative, made a speech reflecting back on the students’ past five years at the University of Pretoria as well as the journey that lies ahead of them as they step into the construction industry. Professor Tinus Maritz, the head of the Department of Construction Economics, also addressed the students and gave them advice on how to approach challenges that they might face in the future. The students presented Professor Maritz and Mrs Alta Lotz with gifts to thank them for all the support during their studies. Nathan Mowatt, one of the Construction Management students, set the mood by performing a few songs that had special meaning to the students. After the main course buffet was served, the dance floor was opened. The students and lecturers received hard hats with the University of Pretoria’s logo and during the course of the evening the lecturers and students signed each other’s hard hats to keep as mementos. The students and lecturers danced and mingled until late in the evening. This sure was an event everyone will remember for a long time to come.
