Scholarships available in School of the Built Environment

The value of the scholarships is R80 000. Applications can be submitted for one of the following research projects:

  • NRFM1 - Construct a historical narrative of the changes in spatial structure and form in each of three identified study areas in the City of Tshwane.
  • NRFM2 - Construct a historical narrative of the socio-economic changes experienced in these study areas, including the influence of larger ideological changes.
  • NRFM3 – Construct a historical narrative of the changes in the interaction between the natural and built environments in each of the study areas.
  • NRFM4 – Map/describe the larger urban system, with particular reference to the interaction between ecosystem services and built infrastructure. 

Applications should be submitted to Prof Chrisna du Plessis at [email protected] before 4 March and include a motivation of no more than four pages, an example of previous written work, a CV and a copy of the student’s academic record. Applicants can register for the research degrees of MSc Applied Science, MSc (Real Estate), Master in Town and Regional Planning, Master in Landscape Architecture, Master in Architecture or other relevant fields.

Only candidates with a good academic record who are citizens or permanent residents of South Africa and not in full-time employment are eligible for the above scholarships.
