Invitation to an information session regarding the new Engineering/Parkade project

Posted on July 13, 2009

As already communicated via the intranet, the project entails laboratories and large lecture halls for the School of Engineering as well as the construction of a 1000-bay parking garage. This integrated facility will provide in the growth needs of the School of Engineering and also provide urgently needed parking space for students, staff and visitors. Mass excavations started in May this year with the likely completion date for the whole project in the first semester of 2011.

A new entrance is also necessary to accommodate the traffic volumes and security requirements of such a large parking garage. This entrance will be constructed to the immediate south of the Heavy Machinery Laboratories in University Road. It is anticipated that this entrance will reduce the congestion currently experienced at peak times at the main entrance in Lynnwood Road. The existing entrance in University Road will be closed and will be used as a drop-off zone.

Although this project may not impact you directly, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to a general information session by the architect, Mr Anton de Jongh, from ARC Architects. Come and see what is being planned and what the final product will look like! The details are as follows:

Date:  17 July 2009
Time:  10:30
Venue:  Sanlam Auditorium

Kindly confirm your attendance with Helena Jones by 16 July 2009 at [email protected]

I look forward to welcoming you at the information session.
Prof Antonie De Klerk
Executive Director
