The Mauritius Institute of Education is pleased to host the 2025 DETA Conference. As an institution that aims to remain at the forefront of educational innovation, it proudly partners with the University of Pretoria and Saide to offer a forum to delegates from a spectrum of contexts to explore a phenomenon that gains new dimensions as fast as it gains ground, namely technology in education. Technology has become an inescapable feature of the educational landscape, offering vistas of opportunity, but also bringing about challenges. How does the Global South position itself to enable transformative educational experiences through the use of technology? How does it aim to bridge the digital divide to ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education for all learners in line with SDG 4? How will the optimal, but ethical use of AI be promoted?
Over four days, participants with expertise in diverse scholarly areas will share their research and perspectives on key issues related to the theme of the conference: “Education for empowering the Global South: Technologies and pedagogies for distance teacher education”. In addition to stimulating discussions, the event promises rich take- aways, among which future partnerships and collaboration for educational endeavours.
I wish all participants a warm welcome and a productive conference.
