Welcome message from the Manager, Unit for Distance Education

2 April 2025

A new digital era of teaching and learning has dawned upon us. Technological teaching and learning tools are rapidly replacing the traditional blackboard, pens and books. Globally, this rapid change in the education sector is not taking place uniformly. In distance education programmes, facilitators are doing their best to succeed with what little they may find available in their educational environments. The 2025 DETA Conference will give delegates from diverse distance education disciplines a chance to explore innovative and sustainable solutions to technological and pedagogical challenges from the Global South and beyond. You are invited to join us at the Mauritius Institute of Education for a chance to network, learn, unlearn, relearn and explore possible collaboration opportunities.

Invited are speakers who are experts from various educational backgrounds, including educational administrators, managers, leaders and educational executives from the higher education sector.  They are thought leaders in various educational disciplines and their contributions will resonate with the conference theme “Education for empowering the Global South: Technologies and pedagogies for distance teacher education”.

Welcome to the 2025 DETA Conference.

Dr Mary Ooko, Manager Unit for Distance Education, Faculty of Education.
