During the two days, a real-life situation was presented to the students where they, as management teams, had to run a business and align its demand, distribution, production and raw material supply activities. This was done while dealing with realistic environmental issues like changes in the market, actions of competitors, industry characteristics and each company's own strengths and weaknesses.
“Students gain an understanding by means of a simulation tool of how a truly integrated supply chain creates value for a firm, its supply chain partners and its shareholders. This is one of the best ways to become ‘business fit’ and the students get the unique opportunity to gain years of management experience in only two days”, says Mr Wesley Niemann, Supply Chain coordinator in the Department of Business Management.
Congratulations to the Aunt Sara’s team who managed to align their supply chain best.
Comments from students:
“We found the Supply Chain Challenge to be just that - a challenge. It was an eye opener to what supply chain management entails! It truly felt like we were a management team; the pressure, the quick decision-making and the repercussions of bad decisions and good ones.”
“It was an educational experience. In the Supply Chain Challenge we got the chance to apply what we have learned and we realised things that we still have a few things to learn. This challenge added to our knowledge of the subject.”
