Dr Antonites makes waves in entrepreneurship

Posted on April 16, 2013

He recently made waves in the field of entrepreneurship with his opinions expressed in an article in the February edition of Entrepreneur magazine, as well as two Financial Mail editions, Talk Radio 702, CNBC Africa television show and SAFM (a guest on Saturday morning shows).

Dr Antonites busts the “no funding available to entrepreneurs” myth in his article in the February 2013 edition of Entrepreneur, by providing an extensive list of financiers available to entrepreneurs and small business owners. Potential financiers include private, corporate, and public funding entities. He provides helpful tips and advice for obtaining the necessary start-up capital for emerging businesses.

In the September/October 2012 edition of Financial Mail, he states that youth entrepreneurs are highly creative and have wonderful ideas, but often lack realism and experience. These qualities can however be acquired through the various entrepreneurship programmes offered at the University of Pretoria. He goes on to suggest implementing one-stop offices in every town, “inviting entrepreneurs to start opportunity-orientated business ventures”, which would link them to relevant enablers.

In the March 2013 edition of Financial Mail, he again emphasises the fact that young people are creative and are willing to take risks. The University of Pretoria Business Incubator (UPBI) provides students with the necessary business acumen through practical training and experience. In his research capacity Dr Antonites is currently analysing the intellectual property regulatory environment pertaining to the SMME sector on behalf of the World Intellectual Property Office.

The final wave Dr Antonites made in entrepreneurship reached distant shores! After sharing his knowledge and experience at the Centre for Innovation Management and Enterprise at the London Royal Docks Business School in January this year, he was invited to become an Entrepreneurship Research Associate for the Centre. The focus would be on developing a Peer2Peer enterprise development model (Consensio), in the hopes of starting a similar Consensio group in South Africa.
