The Mamelodi Business Hub Story

In 2011, the Mamelodi Business Hub (MBH), originally known as the Mamelodi Business Clinic, was established by the Department of Business Management within the Faculty of Economic and Management

Sciences and became a crucial role player in the implementation of community development initiatives. The primary purpose of the MBH is to enable community development through innovative interventions to enhance the development of entrepreneurs in the local community.

Nestled in the heart of Mamelodi, a densely populated community in the northeast of the City of Tshwane, our hub understands the unique challenges faced by entrepreneurs in this area. With unemployment rates reaching alarming heights at 63.6%, many residents have turned to entrepreneurship as a means of survival. However, the journey to sustaining and growing their businesses has proven to be an uphill battle.

MBH is aimed at facilitating entrepreneurship and small business development in and around the Tshwane community through entrepreneurship mentoring, entrepreneurship training, business advice, and business counseling processes.

The Business Hub aims to:

Stimulate and establish new businesses and entrepreneurial activities in the Tshwane communities to help with job creation.

Create opportunities for service learning, as the Department will be able to enrich theory through application while increasing community participation by providing students with an opportunity to interact with SMMEs. Third-year BCom Entrepreneurship students as well as MPhil Entrepreneurship students will be involved in the service learning.

The Business Hub will:

Provide workshops, learnerships, entrepreneurial training and development programmes to the community.

Promote public awareness and understanding of business requirements by disseminating pertinent information to business owners and community groups.

Provide business formation, company registration and development assistance, assessment of risk/liability, opinions on code compliance and financial accounting and reporting standards.

Empower small businesses and non-profit organisations in the community with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate their businesses.

Provide necessary assistance to SMMEs or aspiring entrepreneurs during all stages of business development by offering quality business advice, and mentoring.

Join us on this inspiring journey of transformation and empowerment. Together, we can unlock the potential within each entrepreneur, celebrate their achievements, and create a thriving business environment in Mamelodi. Let us stand united in the pursuit of economic empowerment, driven by innovation, and guided by the values of community, collaboration, and prosperity.
