The programme Biblical and Religion Studies is staffed by the Faculty of Theology and hosted by the Faculty of Humanities. The programme is presented as an unbiased and religiously neutral subject. Insights from the humanities are incorporated where applicable.
The programme Biblical and Religion Studies grew from what was known from 1985-2002 as the Department of Bible Studies (in Afrikaans better known as Bybelkunde), which was part of the Faculty of Humanities as an independent Department. Eventually this Department developed into a programme with close ties between Theology and Humanities. As is still the case today, the staff responsible for the lectures within this programme comes from Theology as well as Humanities. The programme offers a three year course as well as possibilities of Hons, Masters and PhD degrees.
