Please note that the Department of Auditing has restructured its MPhil specialising in Internal Auditing. The programme will now be known as the new MPhil specialising in Governance and Assurance, which serves a wider audience. The first intake for the new programme will be in 2026.

As part of the restructuring, the number of modules has been reduced to only four modules. This substantially reduces the number of modules compared to the previous degree programme. The minimum time to complete the new programme will be one year. The modules of the restructured degree include new developments in governance and assurance, current tools, techniques and methods used by assurance providers, research methodology and a mini-dissertation.

This new degree is currently under approval as part of the university's official approval process, which is expected to be completed by the end of July 2025.

In view of the ongoing approval process, prospective students are requested to send an email expressing their interest in enrolling for the new MPhil specialising in Governance and Assurance to Dr Blanche Steyn at [email protected] as soon as possible after 1 April 2025. This represents the first step of the internal application process.

Prospective students who complied with the minimum requirements set out below this paragraph and who applied via the above internal application process, will be emailed the internal departmental application form as soon as possible. Students must complete the internal application form and resubmit it as soon as possible.

Minimum requirements include:

  1. A professional audit-related certification, for example, CIA, CA(SA) or CISA.
  2. An honours-level qualification like, for example, the BCom Honours specialising in Internal Auditing or a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences.
  3. A minimum of three years of audit experience.

To provide further information on the new degree, an online information and question-and-answer session providing more guidance and information on the revised new master's degree will be presented in July 2025.
