Anti-plasmodial assay

In vitro anti-Plasmodial activity screening facility

New treatments against the drug-resistant Plasmodium parasite are urgently needed.  Candidates must be effective at low concentrations, be safe to give to children and pregnant women, inexpensive, highly stable, have a novel mode of action and preferably be administered orally.  A new anti-malarial candidate is tested in vitro against the malaria parasite.  Parasite proliferation is examined through detection and monitoring of DNA replication.

At M2PL we provide the following services:

  • Whole cell primary screening on P. falciparum 3D7
  • IC50 determination of compounds on P. falciparum 3D7, W2 and HB3
  • Selectivity/toxicity screens using HepG2  mammalian cell line
