Acccess to higher education
This contribution is part of a bursary programme partnership between UP and Argility Pty (Ltd). The aim is to make higher education and internship or possible employment opportunities accessible to students after satisfactory completion of their studies. These bursaries cover registration, tuition and accommodation fees as well as academic text books.
The University’s Department of Institutional Advancement expressed its gratitude for the funding. "These additional funds from Argility Pty (Ltd) will ensure that more of our students achieve their academic goals without worrying about funding for their studies. We are grateful for the generous support and we look forward to a strengthened partnership.”
Agility Pty (Ltd) and UP support academically deserving students
Speaking on behalf of the University, Khaya Jack said the University of Pretoria is committed to supporting as well as to assisting students to complete their studies in order to increase the number of qualified, skilled, and employable youth. The Argility bursary programme has retained its focus on providing financial assistance to academically deserving students whose families are least able to afford the cost of higher education. The lives of these students will be made easier when they are awarded full bursaries to cover their tuition, accommodation, books and other expenses.
Speaking on behalf of the Argility Group, Executive for Human Resources, Ms Thoko Nqolase, said the partnership was one of the means through which the company addresses the skills shortage in the country. As the programme continues to grow more students could benefit from it. “If the students do well, they will likely join the company”, said Ms Nqolase. “Grab this opportunity with both hands and run with it” she said.
The students, Thabang Mabena (BSc Information and Knowledge Systems), Malematsa Masekela (BSc Information and Knowledge Systems), Kqanane Obothlale (BSc Information and Knowledge Systems), Ivy Asamoah-Awuah (Bis Multimedia), Kirsten Bassuday (BSc Information Technology (BIT)) and Eugene Masinga (BSc Information and Knowledge Systems) said they were thrilled and relieved to receive the bursary.
