Message from the Head of the Department Public Law

"Any vision statement must be mindful of the ensuing mission that will give effect to it. In this regard the academic and political landscape, as well as the context in which a Department of Public law should function at a premier South African university, are to be noted. Pivotal to the mission of the Department of Public Law is the advent of democratic constitutionalism in South Africa in 1994. Public law (in the wide sense of the word) has grown in stature, scope, application and importance. Any vision of a Department of Public Law at a South African university should reflect this monumental paradigm-shift.

As head of this Department, I will strive to promote all the activities (teaching and learning, research, and community involvement) of the department, ensure compliance with the applicable regulatory framework and policy documents, as well as to enhance the personal welfare of all members of staff of the Department (academic and administrative), and ultimately the academic and professional development of all our students through optimal and continuous academic functionality and excellence".
