The Extractive Industry Law in Africa Programme, under the auspices of the Faculty of Law, proudly hosted the first edition of the Southern Africa International Arbitration Conference (SAIAC) in December 2016.
The conference, organised by I-ARB, provided a platform for international arbitration practitioners in Southern Africa to discuss the latest developments in the region. The event brought together more than 40 speakers and practitioners from around the globe, including from government, legal practice and industry.
The focus of the 2016 conference was on Bilateral Investment Treaties and Asia-Africa disputes, with a particular focus on arbitrations in the mineral and hydrocarbon sectors.
