Prof. Alants' new book is a meaningful contribution to the field of AAC

Prof. Erna Alants’ book entitled: AAC Engagement and participation, published by Plural Publishing, is a meaningful contribution to the field of AAC. This book examines the components of human communication based on the development of making meaning between two people. The book provides a new and innovative theoretical framework integrating the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies into interpersonal interactions. The book places emphasis on empathic listening skills of both communication partner and user of AAC strategies to facilitate engagement (emotional resonance) between them. Prof.Alant founded the Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (CAAC) at the University of Pretoria in 1990. She is currently a Professor and Otting Chair in Special Education at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indianna, USA. She is also an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria. She has over 30 years of experience in the field of AAC and was the President of the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication between 2010-2012. She has significant clinical experience and has published extensively.
