What is VIP?

VIP offers students a multidisciplinary, multinational and multi-year action learning experience that is project-based and either linked to local industry or local and international research activities. Students will be able to receive hands-on experience on a contextually relevant project which could either count towards their vacation work credit or simply as an enthusiastic volunteer.

VIP teams are typically student-based teams supported by postgraduate students or members of the Faculty. There is no limit to the number of semesters a student can be active in the VIP teams and there is no limit to the position the student can fulfill (some second-year students opt for management roles in the team).

Why join VIP@Tuks?

Being part of a VIP team for a few semesters gives you valuable practical experience and an opportunity to see what your skills can mean on a live project. Your VIP work can count towards practical training requirements and you can use your work for semester or design modules.

How does it work?

• VIP teams meet frequently during the semester except during the Engineering Test Weeks and recess periods.

• In addition to your team meeting, you will complete 4 hours of work per week either individually or in a subgroup. Or you can complete your hours during the recess period.

• To be successful in VIP, you need to be proactive, creative and not afraid to try and fail!

Who can join?

• Any undergraduate student who is a second year or above may apply.

• Any full-time postgraduate student who is not employed by another company (except UP) may apply.

• All disciplines are welcome!
