Melusi Grand Opening Celebration Day

The Melusi Clinic “Phela Hantle” Global Grant between Rotary International and the University of Pretoria celebrated its grand opening and 18 months of project achievements on the 20th of April 2022. Speakers on the day included the likes of Dr Meyer and Dr Madela-Mntla, led by programme director Ashley Mabusela. Honorary speakers and community leaders were present on the day to share their appreciation for the hard work done by the clinic and its community members. 

Services rendered on the day included: a pap smear, baby weighing and measure, baby vitamins and deworming and primary health services, offered on Mondays and Thursdays. Mother and Child services included; child immunisations, Covid- 19 vaccinations for everyone (undocumented as well) and boosters, with a positive turnaround on the community members and chest X-rays (part of the units TB study), 

Honorary guests and representatives from Rotary; C.Khoury  and J. Newhouse gave thanks for the hard work and contribution from the University of Pretoria, and its participation within the Melusi community.

 Performances on the day included the community drama club which highlighted the behaviour of nurses within the healthcare system, and how patients are treated by nursing sisters. The play addressed the ill-treatment of patients by our health care providers, particularly nurses.

The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting by Dr Meyer and a vote of thanks from Dr Madela-Mntla. The overall event was a success as community members showed support and appreciation in numbers.
