In October/November 2016, Dr Pineteh Angu was a guest researcher at the Centre for Concurrences in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies at Linnaeus University in Vaxjo, Sweden.  During his tenure as a guest researcher, he presented a seminar on his current research on Xenophobia and African migrants entitled “The aliens and demons that must be exorcised from South Africa: Framing xenophobia and the African migrant in post-apartheid narratives”. In his paper, he used excerpts of statements from South Africans, political speeches and media reports, to show how different sets of narratives trigger and exacerbate xenophobic violence in South Africa.  Dr Angu is a new Senior Lecturer in the Unit for Academic Literacy.
