Admission Requirements:

  1. A relevant honours degree with specialisation in a language, linguistics or a language-related discipline
  2. A cumulative weighted average of at least 65% for the honours degree

Economic and Management Sciences

 

All students will enrol for ALL 124 (English) in the second semester.

  - BCom (Law): See Faculty of Law.
  - BCom (Informatics): See School of Information Technology.

All Accounting Sciences students will enrol for ALL 126 (English for Accounting Students) in the second semester.

 

Education

 

Students who obtained a 4 or lower for English Home Language, or a 5 or lower for English First Additional Language, register for JLZ 111 and JLZ 121. All other students should register for JLZ 110 and JLZ 120.

 

 

Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology

 

 

School of Engineering

All students register for the modules HAS 110 and HAS 120.

 School of Information Technology

Students who obtained a 4 or lower for Afrikaans Home Language or English Home Language, or a 5 or lower for English First Additional Language, register for ALL 110 in the first semester.

 All students register for ALL 121 in the second semester.

 School for the Built Environment

Students who obtained a 4 or lower English Home Language, or a 5 or lower for English First Additional Language, register for ALL 110.

 All students in the Department of Construction Economics register for ALL 122 in the second semester.

 All students in the Department of Town and Regional Planning register for ALL 123 in the second semester.

 Students in the Department of Architecture do not register for a second-semester academic literacy module.

 

 

Health Sciences

 

Students who are placed on Codes 1, 2 and 3 on the basis of the Academic Literacy Test register for academic literacy modules as specified below:

 - Schools of Dentistry and Medicine: ELH 111 in the first semester and ELH 112 in the second semester, except for Clinical Medical Practice students who register for ELH 131 in the first semester and ELH 132 in the second semester and Bachelor of Oral Hygiene students who register for ELH 121 in the first semester and ELH 122 in the second semester.

 -  School of Healthcare Sciences: ELH 121 in the first semester and ELH 122 in the second semester.

 

 

Humanities

 

Students who obtained a 4 or lower English Home Language, or a 5 or lower for English First Additional Language, register for ALL 110 in the first semester and for ALL 125 in the second semester.

Other students in the Faculty register for a language module to the value of 12 credits.

 - BA(Law): See Faculty of Law.

 

 

Law

 

Academic literacy for students in the Faculty will be incorporated in the modules JUR 110 and JUR 120. Both modules are compulsory for all students of Law (LLB, BA(Law) and BCom(Law)).

 

 

Mamelodi Campus

 

 

All students on the Mamelodi Campus will enrol for LST 133 in the first semester and LST 143 in the second semester.

 

Natural and Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Sciences

 

 

All students must enrol for LST 110 in the first semester.

 

 

Theology

 

Students who obtained a 4 or lower English Home Language, or a 5 or lower for English First Additional Language and all students in the diploma programme register for ALL 110 in the first semester. All students will enroll for ALL 120 in the second semester.
