#Tukssport: Bosman family leads by example for the upcoming 2025 Sappi TuksRace

Posted on February 03, 2025

On Saturday, 15 February, a day after Valentine declares love, a few thousand runners will take to Pretoria's streets to participate in the Sappi Tuks Race.

Sarina Bosman, the popular announcer of Pretoria FM, will be one of them, and with good reason. Pretoria FM and TuksFM are the event's media sponsors.

Running is one of the passions of the Bosman family. Most late afternoons, Sarina jogs with her husband, Carel, and their two children. Carel pushes the two-year-old Philip in a pram while Sarina has the six-month-old Gustav strapped to her body in a harness. Sarina confesses that their running pace is slow, but then again, for them, it's not about speed. It's family time.

Carel will take part in the half marathon to log the kilometres as part of the build-up to Comrades. Sarina will probably do the 5km run."

When asked why she jogs, Sarina jokes that she does it to keep her figure in check. Then she admits that she likes to eat.

"Another reason why I jog is because Carel diplomatically made it clear that I'm a friendlier person when I've been exercising. He's right. Jogging is good for my mind.

"When I jog, I get my heart rate up, fresh air in my lungs, and sun on my skin. I am in a better mood when I return from a run. I think more clearly about things. I'm not a keen jogger, but I need to jog four to five kilometres three to four times a week. The furthest I've ever run in a race was the Phobians 15km race. I aim to complete a half marathon before the end of the year."

Sarina studied journalism and languages at Tuks from 2010 to 2012.

"There's a good reason why I chose Tuks. The plan from the beginning was to work as an announcer at TuksFM as a student. I did so from my first year as a student. Radio is a passion. It all started when I was 11 and watched an interview with Derick Gardner on Pasella. I was fascinated when he talked about all the preparation he had to do for each program. I was also a big fan of Samantha Cohen on Highveld Stereo. My grandfather later told me how my grandmother nearly got to work as a radio announcer. Radio seems to be in our family's blood."

The Sappi TuksRace edition on 15 February includes the 21.1km and 10km official races and 5km and 1km fun family events. It will take place at the Hillcrest Sports Campus and the surrounding areas. Runners who decide to run the Sappi TuksRace 21 km will pass the Sappi Tech Centre at the 18 km marker watering point.
