#TuksVolleyball: Tuks women’s volleyball team claimed silver

Posted on May 01, 2018

The Tuks women’s volleyball team got oh so close to winning the Champions Cup Indoor Tournament at Wits.

Yesterday’s final was a tight affair with the team of the University of the Western Cape having to pull out all the stops to beat Tuks by three sets to two. The score in the final set was 15-13.

Dina Kladis who ended up coaching instead of playing is OK for now with the result.

“We would have loved to win, but in the end, we were not good enough. But I can say that we are on an upward trend as far as indoor volleyball is concerned.

“We were in a very strong pool with Kamplits who won last year. TUT who has got a formidable team was also in our group. So the challenge the team set itself was to play as hard they can from the first game. Every player stepped up to the plate.”

In their pool games, Tuk managed to beat TUT 3-2 and Kamplits 3-0. They then went on to beat UniJozi in the quarterfinals 3-0 and in the semi-finals they were victorious against the Superkids winning 3-0.

Through their performance, the Tuks women's team has qualified for the Classic Tournament which will be played in September in Durban. There is R100 000 prizemoney at stake. The team will also be competing in the Zone 6 Tournament in December.

Natasha Webber received the awards as best setter yesterday while Kladis got appointed as assistant coach for the South African women’s under-20 side.
