#TuksNetball: Varsity Netball 2016 - Build Up

Posted on August 31, 2016

A note from the captains…

It is that time of the year again when Varisty Netball will bring you extensive action from our student athletes. Shadine van der Merwe and Tshinakaho Mdau have been named the captains of the UP-Tuks team going forward.

Shadine is currently pursuing a B.Ed Honours in Education Management Law and Policy qualification. She believes that the team is grateful for yet another opportunity to live out their netball dreams on court and embrace their God given talent. She believes that the team will make the most of this opportunity and will simply be the best that they can be. Her goal to lead by example is fuelled by the wise words from the late John F. Kennedy, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them”.

Tshinakaho, better known as Tshina, is currently studying towards a BCom Agricultural Economics degree. She believes that “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard” – Tim Notke. She hopes that women can be empowered through netball and help grow the sport professionally.

UP-Tuks first Varsity Netball Encounter will be against the University of the Free State at the Callie Human Hall on Monday 5 September 2016. Tip-off is at 16h30
