UP-Tuks travel to Johannesburg to take on the in-form University of Johannesburg at the Soweto campus on Monday the 1st August 2016. Kick-off will be at 16:30.
As pre-tournament favourites, UP-Tuks have started the tournament slow picking up one point from two matches. They below par performance in front of their home crowd against arch-rivals TUT has put them further behind from the early pace-setters UJ.
UJ, on the other hand, have had a brilliant start, they made their intentions clear with their 6-2 triumph against NWU-Mafikeng. The last time the two teams met was in the 2014 final, UP-Tuks beat UJ 1-0 to clinch the title but that was two years ago and both teams have gone through a lot of changes including new coaches.
UP-Tuks have their work cut out for them as they seek their first win of the tournament against an unbeaten UJ, failure to get any result on Monday would be disastrous for the former two-time champions. Head Coach of UP-Tuks Tlisane Motaung feels that there is no need to hit the panic buttons yet, “We are prepared as a team and for the UJ match its non-negotiable we have to get a result because we haven’t collected points and we cannot afford to drop any points but I’m under no illusion it is going to be tough for us but I have full confidence in these players that they will get the job done”.
