Assupol TuksCricket Win NCU Premier League for 6th Consecutive Year

Posted on March 23, 2016

The past season has not been an easy one for the AssupolTuksCricket team. The first half of the season commenced at the same time as the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals which were hosted in India where the core of the Tuks 1 team was competing. Tuks 1 experienced the same situation at the beginning of the second half of the season when the core of the Tuks 1 team went to compete in the Varsity Cricket Week in Potchefstroom while still having to participate in the Pretoria Premier League.

There a change in coaching department during the season; Aldin Smith coached Tuks 1 in the Premier League from September 2015 until the end of January 2016. Head of Programme Pierre de Bruyn tendered his resignation at the end of 2015 and newly appointed Head Coach and Technical Director for Assupol TuksCricket, Kruger van Wyk, took over the reins for Tuks 1 during February 2016.

Tuks also experienced a massive turnover of players in the past couple of weeks due to players being selected for Northerns Senior Provincial, Titans and other teams. This made it difficult to field the same team week after week but this presented an opportunity for younger players to get exposure in Premier League Cricket.

Almost 60 players played Premier League this past season. This shows that this year’s league victory was a massive club effort and all players and coaches involved need to be acknowledged for winning the league.

Assupol TuksCricket has now qualified to take part in the Momentum National Club Championships that will take place from 22–27 April 2016 in Pretoria.
