USSA: TuksRugby bring home SILVER

Posted on July 07, 2015

UP-Tuks won silver at the 2015 USSA Rugby Championships after missing out on the title by the narrowest of margins. UP-Tuks, the 2014 champions, lost to UJ in the final. Final score: 14-13.

“It is to cry for. We came so very close to becoming the first Tuks team to win back to back champions titles, but in the end it was not to be. And to add even further insult to injury is the reality that we were the makers of our own destiny. They did not win gold, we simply gave it away, “commented a bitterly disappointed head coach, Pote Human.

“We can moan about the local referee’s inconsistency as much as we like, but he was not the difference between win and lose. We played very well in the first half, but in the last 40 minutes we were lack lustered. They did most of the playing and put us under lots of pressure.”

Despite the defeat UP-Tuks will take a lot of positives from the tournament, added Human.

“I thought the man upstairs smiled at us in abundance in the semi-final against Maties, but we showed a lot of character and perseverance in extra time. It must also be remembered that we had a very young and inexperienced team. These players will benefit a lot by the lessons they learned.”
