TuksSquash take an early lead at USSA’s

The University of Pretoria crossed the first hurdle in their title hunt at this year’s USSA (University Sport South Africa) Championships at WITS.

Ending off with an enormous 24-0 overall victory against Limpopo, the Tuks team carried their form from their first round of the match play against the Limpopo team. The Women won all their opening matches 3-0. The Men’s team did just as well also winning all their matches, Neil Van Der Merwe 3-0 against BC Nkosi (11-2, 11-3, 11-1) Marko Fourie 3-0 against C Nhmane (11-5, 11-8, 11-4) and Philip Van Tonder also winning 3-0 against MM Sekhaolelo.

The team continued their winning streak throughout Tuesday in their game against TUT, walking away with a comfortable 21-4 overall win. The women’s team won 2 out of their three matches against TUT. Megan Page came up against a tough opponent losing her match 3-1 against Lauren Siddal (3-11, 11-8, 5-11, 3-11) Hannelize Human won 3-1 against Bronwen Reilly (8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-1) and Kim Mcdonald walked off with a 3-0 win against Shannon Pullock (11-3, 11-4, 11-9). The men’s team once again has proven supreme winning all three their matches. Neil Van der Merwe won 3-0 against Johan Fourie (11-4, 11-3, 11-7) Jaques Kruger also wins 3-0 against his opponent Teboho Sekaledi (12-10, 11-7, 11-7) and Marco Fourie also wins his game 3-0 against Turone Leroux (11-4, 11-7, 11-5)

The team will face NMMU at 14h00 in Tuesday’s second round of what promises to be a thrilling battle
