TuksRugby: Assupol League Finals

Posted on March 18, 2015

TuksRugby teams competed over the past weekend (14 March 2015) in the finals of the Assupol League.

The stand out performance of the weekend came from the TuksRugby u/21 team. They demolished UJ 31 – 3 in the final. Tuks u/21 lead by 21 points at half time (24 – 3).

Captain Dillion van der Merwe had a great game; Dillion Vlok scored two tries and was awarded Man of the Match. Tiaan Nel kicked very well slotting 4 conversions and one penalty. Other tries were scored by Hennie le Roux and Done Davids.

Backline coach Bennie Burger and Forwards coach Louis du Plessis were both very happy with the teams’ results. The student-athletes within the team are certainly #EarningTheirStripes as they balance the demands of academic studies and their rugby commitments. The team will now prepare to defend their title in the 2015 edition of the Blue Bulls Carlton League which kicks off on the 18th of April 2015.

Other team results:

TuksRugby 1st team (reserve squad) won all their matches leading up to the final against Centurion 1st team. The match was a close one and the Tuks men unfortunately lost 22 – 26.

The team is captained by Andries Kruger and coached by Kees Lensing and Marinus van der Watt. Defending Champions of the 2014 Blue Bulls Carlton League, TuksRugby 1st team will now also start their preparations for the Blue Bulls Carlton League which will kick off on 18 April 2015.

TuksRugby 3rd team faced Centurion 3rd team and won 17-14 after winning all of their pool games leading up to the final. Coach Pieter Craucamp and Captain Johan Human will make good use of the next 5 weeks or so to prepare for the Blue Bulls Carlton League in April.

The TuksRugby u/20 team faced UJ in the final after defeating Roodepoort, Randfontein and Harlequins in the pool stages. Despite their good form leading into the final the u/20 were unable to get the better of opponents UJ and lost by one point 24 – 25.

The team is captained by Juvan Stimie. Coaches Riaan Vorster and Kobus Vorster will now refocus the team and prepare for the Blue Bulls Carlton League which starts on the 18th of April.
